Adobe Creative Suite vs. Final Cut Studio

When it comes to a complete suite of multimedia editing, the two industry leaders are Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Studio.  Adobe CS is available on both Mac and PC, and Final Cut Studio is only available on Mac.

Since I use both Mac and PC, I'm partial to Adobe because of the similar functionality.  I used Final Cut Studio for a little bit, but I never really put enough time in it to give a full evaluation.  I didn't bother because I'm just so comfortable with Adobe CS5 in general.

Also, there are rumors of Microsoft buying Adobe, so this debate could get interesting in the next year if this is indeed true.

Which one do you have experience with?  What's your preference?

I haven't tried either, because I never have the need to do any multimedia editing.

I've always used Adobe, from the time of college to now, on both Mac and PC platforms, so I know how you feel.

Final Cut Studio because I'm using Mac.

i used final cut before in a media class but since before that I have been using adobe almost all the time, I just liked Adobe and didnt bother trying to learn Final cut. I think Final Cut is good though from what I have seen but I still prefer Adobe bro

non-mac user...I'll just shoot for adobe.

I haven't tried either, though I have older Creative Suites from Adobe and have been very happy with them.

lol ive never used either. was hoping for you tell me which one was better. this is important! i want to take music production in college

Drackar said...

I doubt a Microsoft acquisition of adobe would cause any major changes. You can use itunes on windows, if you're so inclined, and office for mac.

Kikino said...

uhmm never used final cut before

And Im really loving CS5. photoshop new features are great.

tortacular said...

I've on experience with adobe - I liked it for the most part. Having only just bought my first mac a few months back I've never had the opportunity to try Final Cut, but if I ever need to upgrade my software I'll probably give that a try.

En generale, I think I go for Adobe's stuff. Granted, I've never used either one, so I can't give anything definitive like those who have used one or both.

i use gimp, but i would have to go with adobe. if microsoft does buy it GG, it's gonna be patchy beyond comprehension

I use adobe and I really like it.

Final cut is awesome..although I haven't used much of the other.

If MS buys adobe, it will be their ruin. As for FCS, I hate it. FCP is a nightmare and is not even nearly as intuitive as the Adobe products, so I'll act on a hunch that FCS is probably along those same lines - complicated and unintuitive. I definitely prefer CS5

Pope Smurf said...

I only used Adobe and I got the feeling that it's all I'll ever need.

Quinn Electronics said...

Thanks for the review. I really hope that Microsoft does not buy adobe.

Hunter said...

I have worked with both, You'll find most professionals movie/tv editors use Final cut. I'm not that sure why thought, because I've always found Adobe just as good and then some. Both usable, I always tend to go Adobe. good post.

I can't say that I've ever used either, but I hope Microsoft does buy Adobe. Maybe then youtube videos won't take 5 hours to buffer after they release a patch.

godmodeus said...

i will go with adobe because is for everyone

The Angry Vegetarian said...

98% of my experience is with CS, the other 2% is with Final Cut. I just got used to CS and stuck with it. Plus, as you mentioned, it can be used on both of my systems.

OC-STEVEN said...

have minor experience with cs4 but the only thing i dont like is how unlightweight cs5 is... and i dont own a mac nor do i care to try final cut studio. adobe creative suite does what i need it to do

Sykefu said...

Being a PC guy myself, I have never heard of Final Cut Studio. I have though, used the crap out of Adobe products and have always been impressed but slightly overwhelmed. If Final Cut Studio can simplify the process, I would prefer to use it.

Adobe all the way, kinda biased though, only macs I've ever used were in school.

ADOBE ALL THE WAY!

I really like Adobe Creative Suite, but I've never used Final Cut Studio. I'd think Adobe would make the better product for me, as Apple Software seems to be aimed towards ease of use, rather than providing useful tools.

indiecola said...

Love Photoshop, love final cut pro. haven't had experience with much other stuff.

adobe for me :)

clearly, macs were made for this kind of program, and are superior in this respect. however, windows is a better option for so many other things.

The Blizzard said...

I've only use Adobe, and I love Adobe. I am interested in trying Final Cut though.

InformativeGamer said...

Adobe is far better in my opinion, it might not be as easy as all the derp derp mac products, but it can accomplish more if done right.

Eferhilda said...

I have only ever used Adobe for anything really. Though again i do sometimes dabble in some of the free software out there like gimp.

Igloo said...

I've only had experiences with CS (im a PC)

Slumph said...

both awesome, just final cut is mactastic.. nah in all seriousness I am not sure of the actual differences between them; but i'm sure users of both of them have their preferences and know the diffs :P just kinda what you've grown up using or doing stuff first on really.. kinda sticks in the mind like that, habbit, comfort and some people are just scared to change from what they are familiar with.

Ale-X said...

I have more experience with Adobe, thanks to school.

nick said...

adobe of course.

Toliver Edge said...

I'm a fan of Adobe. I've never used the other thing, but Adobe just trumps all.

Yea, it's expensive, but if this is your line of work, then it's definitely worth it.

Or, you could torrent it, but that's shady.
