Windows Mobile Messaging (Microsoft Exchange) vs. BlackBerry BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server)
In the enterprise infrastructure, 2 hand held messaging platforms are dominant: Microsoft Exchange and BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). Windows Mobile phones and the iPhone use the ActiveSync MS Exchange Server information to sync up with your mailbox, whereas BlackBerry phones use a BES server.
In the current infrastructure I manage, our enterprise phones are BlackBerry devices. The BES links up with MS Exchange. When emails are received, they route to both servers. The main benefit here is if the MS Exchange network account is locked out, the BES continues to be able to send and receive messages.
In terms of being a user, I still preferred the iPhone over BlackBerry as I like the iPhone's OS. However, from an enterprise point of view, the decision makers seem to be more comfortable with a BES as it has a reputation of being more secure (whether this is true or not is a different story).
What are you experiences and thoughts on this?

blacberry is the best
the iphone is definately more about the packaging...
clarifying keep it up
I think that the BES seems logical from a security standpoint.
I prefer iphones atm. As far as choosing the difference in BES and such is mostly preference. They all have some sort of security concern
If security is what really matters, I think that's what takes priority.
using my iphone and i got never any security trouble humm..
I like the iPhone's OS too, never really experienced Blackberry
I only have beginner experience with WMM.
So i can't really add to this.
Looks like a good medium of server exchange.
I also Prefer the iPhone over BlackBerry because of its subtle, yet dominant design and features, which BlackBerrys cannot compete with.
It depends...is it more secure?
i like the iphone OS too, but apple policy over pirateing and jailbreaking are making me mad
I use Android, but I think they're all good. Fanboys just like to argue.
im a big fan of the iPhone, so i agree with you =D
I am currently using a BB but it is starting to lose me I think I would rather have something that works faster
agreed, the iphone OS is just simple and user friendly!
Blackberry the best !
Always preferred blackberry :D
great, ty for info!
I'd assume that BES is more robust as it's designed for a specific purpose - not a hack like most MS software.
I've only used the BES in my career, and I have no complaints. However, my perspective is bias due to not trying anything else.
Blackberry has their own server so cops cannot read anything sent. Nice Post
BES is is going really well for me. I get emails so much more quickly... sometimes before my laptop does.
thanx for this

why should the BES be more secure?
havnet used either..
I hatet he iphone OS, symbian^3 or android ftw, iphone is so generic and impersonal!
I've never used a Blackberry before, so I'm ignorantly partial to the iPhone.
I like my BB waaaaay more, i love ping!
I'm curious. I have no opinion, since a have nor iPhone neither Blackberry.
I don't care in anyway. I haven't even tried any of the new phones :D
Hmm.... I should look more into this. Good post btw.
I'd like a server like that in my play room
well the propably best "feature" of the ms exchange solution is that you can use nearly every new mobile phone for it. andriod, symbian, ios.
i dont know how is it with bes, just blackberry or some sorted mobiles or not?
i can only say that the mainframes used for servers must be inmense :p
i also prefer iphone
i prefer microsoft sorry i'm poor
personally not a fan of the iphone
iPhone is more usable, but I would still have to go for the Blackberry honestly... I dont really trust Apple... I want my removable battery, etc.!
good to know man, i always wondered what was going on
well seeing as MS has triple the amount of servers as BES
Microsoft all the way.
I rather Blackberry even over iPhone
blackberry wins! :o
Blackberry, for sure.
who needs any of this phones as a private person
right , nobody...
i'm happy with my cheap cellphone
the iphone definately
said
both of those suck.. I have gmail and gmail app for my mobile.. wouldn't wanna anything else !
I don't use either, would probably get an iphone if I had the disposable income for it
good stuff here
I like that BES connects to your internal lan, letting you view your corporate intranet
Yeah, I'm an iphone lover, but i do see the flipside for biz purposes.
blackberry ftw
I think that the BES seems logical from a security standpoint. but i prefer iphone
im conflicted. i like BB os more, but i always trust microsoft products more. hmmmmmm..
That's a decent-sized server.
hmmm... Hard one!
I really did what the iphone does for me, I might hate mac products but this is the real deal
android is way awesome , i had the first gen iphone , didnt like it seems the v4 is about the same
BBM is a nice touch but I do prefer the Iphones OS
i dont have either, but i would like one :)
i love the blackberry, probably because im too poor for an iphone and besides, my area doesnt play well with the provider needed
I love blackberry!
i've used both BB, iphone, and android. sticking with android. the BB is certainly more accepted "professionally" but overall i found the email folder and calendar functions lacking. not to mention the app world problems. iphone is well, iphone. walled gardens suck. hellooo android! (btw their handling of activesync is pretty damn good)
incredible info, lad
iphone is better than blackberry but droid is better than iphone
Man that server looks intense!
servers cost a lot too dont forget
i want a server too
I love the iphone. If i was running a company, I would just jailbreak all of my workers' iPhones so taht we could run on BES. Im not a fan of microsoft.
I will never go mac! but thanks for the post!
From an aesthetic point of view, the iPhones are much better... also more intutive. But I have to go ahead and align with the side that says BBs are more secure. They are. Already found exploits in both the iPhone user level end agreements AND in Android OS that likely would never happen on BBs
BES would be the best way to go right?
iPhone has more aplications so I prefer it.
Yeah, the iPhone is more popular due to its combination of a user-friendly OS and open-source, which is also why I prefer it.
Thanks for checking out my blog! Be sure to Follow if you like it ;)
WereAndWillBe.blogspot.com
I also prefer iphone! :)
I´m going with BES on this one
WinMo ftw!
blacberry better
Microsoft exchange is working fine, using it for my study! as i'm syncing calendars, mails and such things from my student account, never had anything negative to say about it. Never tried BES though.
iPhone is clearly the best device and you should see my blog for the proof of awsome apps are on the iPhone
Iphone does have a superior OS, IMO
I think theres xbox live or something on the new windows phone.
me too
as many here have already stated.. the iphone OS is superb but apple is so fuc*** restrictive, sometimes this is really bugging myself
never experienced blackberry... so it's clearly iphone for me here
iPhone > Everything
blackberry sucks, iphone suck!
android all the way
That's a tough one...
I prefer the iPhone for everything except the keyboard. I stay with my Blackberry because I like then physical keyboard.
i've only had experience with microsofts and it was pretty good
