Anyone run a Hackintosh Computer?
Hackintosh laptops and desktops have been gaining some cult popularity since the Mac went with Intel processors. From what I've heard, you have to jump through hoops to get it setup, but once everything works, you're good to go.
Is anyone running a Hackintosh? What are your thoughts? Was it worth the trouble?

I was going to try it with an extra box I have lying around. Seems like a fun project.
I know that netbooks are easier to setup as a Hackintosh. I did it about 2 years ago on my older system, and yes it was a pain. You might be better off doing VMWare with the Mac OS.
Yep, one at work.,
I have a mac mini running win XP. I know.. but with 256RAM you cant do much with macOS.
Works like a charm by the way
i tried setting one up, not worth it too hard
Not yet... but I'm about to get the new air so Ima monitor this thread...
I still use windows XP.
Old school. :3
Tempted to but too lazy to actually do it. :P
and somebody ever cares to try the contrary? running windows on a mac??
I would be interested in hearing more about that actually.. I run debian linux which is great but there are NO games.
I like my windows xp thank you very much. i know it isn't the latest OS, but it works for me just right :)
The scrub will work on ur back too. Get one of those back washcloth things
I ran one for a while. Other than getting myself some TF2 earbuds it was kind of a pain in the ass. I had an MSI Wind and used the MSIWindOSX86 distribution, and even with that I had a boatload of problems (being stuck at 800 by 600, the lack of drivers for the wifi adapter, etc)
I haven't, but I'm interested in this quite a bit
Ehhh I wouldn't think Hackintosh would be too nice.
Check out my blog?
pure blasmphemy sir lol might as well around danceing yelling jehova while people are crashed with rocks lol
I hear it's not hard, but I'll stick to linux. It can coexist with your non-free OSes, I guess.
I'm not, but I'd be interested to learn more about this (I'll be googling in a bit, obviously, but a blogpost would be good too!).
Never used a Mac, of course not a Hack
don't run it. wouldn't run it.
You mean running Mac OS on a comp that came from the factory with Windows?
I never thought of that. I should do it, I absolutely love Apple's creative suite.
I'll be interested to see everyones responses.
Wait, why would you wanna use the Mac OS on a PC? If you're using a Mac it would presumably be for virtual editing of some kind in which you'd want the Mac hardware as well.....
whoa... this site is exploding!!
I wanted to try that .. but what's the point... I'm more comfortable with windows 7 :D
An Hackintosh is still a PC that tries to be a Mac, but it wouldn't have its efficiency.
PC has some characteristics, Mac has different features, I think an ibrid is not a well done thing.
Never heard of a hackintosh, but I had a bootable usb-stick with backtrack on. it
Not running one but I love the name :)
no, sorry. :o
Never tried.
i'd like to know how things went as well for anyone who did.
Wasn't worth the trouble for me - had to compromise on component choice (esp. graphics) and in the end I hardly use OSX. The same desktop boots Win7, XP & Ubuntu. All get more use than OSX.
Haven't any experience with Hackintosh but it looks and sound awesome, wish I could do that with my desktop :<
I can't think of any reason why I would want to do that. The OS is the DOWNSIDE of Mac computers, not the upside.
I'd love to try it out, just for the experience.
Ooh nice.
This is totally on my to do list
right click for teh lulz
I had a friend at college that had a Hackintosh. She said her dad did all the work for her, she was just enjoying the end result.
one word... WHY? lol
I only have one computer, and it is still working. So I'm not one for experimentation.
I'll just stick with windows
I've tried and it wasn't worth the effort
I didn't know you could do that. But I think i'd want it the other way around.
Meh sounds somewhat worth it once you get it setup, would probably be a bitch to troubleshoot tho.
I'm not but thats pretty sweet
I'll stick to my windows, thank you very much.
Tried a long while ago..with little success..Imagine the possibilities though..good hardware and a good os for faaaaar cheaper price
I hate macs so no way ever.
Exactly what is a hackintosh?
OSx on a pc?
I'm thinking about doing this!
You know I'd like to build one someday but I hear the motherboard is hard to get right.
It's probably about $2,500 cheaper!
nice one
I've been considering doing this. gotta do some research first though
nope pc strictly for me
nope, i'm fullblown Windows, sorry
I tried to run it once. I couldn't get it to work so I just switched to linux.
never heard of that term before.
My buddy has a hackintosh. It's fairly neat, though it seemed a bit counterproductive. Why sacrifice all the applications available to Windows?
What's a Hackintosh?
I dont think it would be worth it. it would be a downgrade to want anything mac really.
nope. cool tho
I want to try a hackintosh so badly, I'm really interested to hear what people think of them as well.
ive always wanted to do this, but dont know how to get it set up :(
Macs already run windows with ease. I don't know why anyone bothers with a junk POS win-doze laptop when they could have the real deal. I did know a guy once with a desktop who got Tiger to run on it. It was pretty nasty. The only thing I've noticed about Windows though is that power management (and of course MS products) in bootcamp is/are so much better than in OSX. If I left my macbook open all night for example and forgot to shut it, the battery would be dead by morning in OSX, but in bootcamp, battery life would still be amazing. So... I guess that's a 1 up for MS over Apl.
Im not running it atm but it looks interesting to try
never really had an interest in running a hackintosh, would love to do the opposite though if I had the money to buy a macbook pro.
One of my friends put OSX on his Dell netbook. It was cool to see, but it didn't run too good. Prolly due to the weak netbook hardware though.
Never done it, might try latter.
eh i'd much rather stick to windows, even if i had the chance to switch to a hackintosh i don't think i would
That's pretty cool I might just try that..
Usually on ubuntu though
Never bothered with it. Too much of a hassle and no programs really worth the trouble for me.
Nope. Boring old Windows Vista user. Never bothered changing it because it's working sufficiently, haha.
can't say i have tried this. but have thought about it on occasion...
Nope since I really do not see the point.
This blog has a future...
gonna stay with my pc
If I could set up a dual-boot, then yeah, I'd probably do that...
Actually, nah. I'd probably just set up Ubuntu again.
Always used windows :D
i never heard about this ! thanks for sharing !
Why would you ever do that? lool...
damn that actually looks pretty cool, i wouldnt mind doing that on my pc
I did for a bit, but it crashed
i dunno how D:
gave up on macs a long time ago.
I don't run one. If I had to run a different OS than windows, I wouldn't even consider setting up a hackintosh.
What with my Macbook Pro being in the terrible state it's in, and the cost of a new one, hackintosh is something I may very well look in to.
I have to start using a mac for work. ugh.
never heard of this until now, might have to look into this more.
i was considering building a hackintosh, but i decided to pick up a new mac mini instead. i run xp pro as a secondary operating system thru Bootcamp
