Apple's New OSX Lion... response to Microsoft's Windows 7?

Apple released the details of their operating system upgrade, OSX Lion.  The concept behind Lion is meshing Snow Leopard with an iPad.  This seems like a good idea, but I'll reserve my judgment for when I actually use it.  Luckily, Apple's operating system upgrades are only $50, so I'll pick it up when it comes out.

Besides the features of Lion, I'm thinking that Apple is trying to one-up Microsoft.  (Yes, I know that Linux rocks, but in the mainstream, it's really OSX vs. Windows.)  Windows 7 is just plain good... I love it.  When it was Vista vs OSX, OSX won hands down.  If you didn't like OSX, you either went to Linux or just stuck it out with XP.

Once Lion is formally released, we'll be able to accurately compare it with Windows 7.

Taahahah... that windows phone ad was funny. Still bent myself on the ifer (iPhone). So, I'm interested in this Lion upgrade. Hopefully it is better with memory management than Snow. I just had to install iFreeMem to start clearing out things when Safari was hogging the world and the moon with it.

I never thought of their upgrades as upgrades and just updates to the current system....

I've never been a mac user. My girlfriend uses a mac and whenever I'm at her dorms I use her laptop to browse, but aside from that I never use them. I'm definitely one of those people too comfortable to move to another operating system. Linux is too manual for me, mac is only now starting to get games thanks to steam, and Windows has always been there while I was growing up.

I can't help but buy into their great marketing schemes. They could sell anything they wanted, and I bet Lion will sell really well.

windows 7 is pretty decent hopefully mac can compare well

We shall wait and see. IMO, mac needs throw everything including the kitchen sink in order to touch windows 7. But if anyone can do it, apple can.

Apple releases an OS X update every year. I don't think it's a direct response to Windows 7.

I'll stick to my Win7, but nice to know Apple is keeping on top of their game and not slacking it in the OS department.
