Online Backup: Mozy or Carbonite?
In terms of online backup, there are two front runners: Mozy & Carbonite.
Mozy: http://mozy.com/
Carbonite: http://www.carbonite.com/
Both services require you to install their software on your PC or Mac so that it can do automatic backups of the files you'd like it to save. Mozy offers 2GB worth of backups for free and also has paid MozyHome and MozyPro plans. Carbonite's subscription includes pricing plans that range from 1 to 3 years.
Does anyone use any of these services? What are your thoughts on online backup?

i don't use them.
seems like a waist of time, and it's for people who don't know any better, like my mom or something, lol.
i have a couple external hard drives i use to keep all my data on, i don't keep anything on my pc, except my music, which is backed up on two different externals as well :)
a 1tb external is only like $90 now, just makes sense...
Don't use any online backup, thanks for the info though.
Carbonite is my choice
I have a few external hard drives that I use for backup but I realise even those are fragile and could fail. I'm not sure I'd be down with paying for storage, though.
I don't know, for some reason I don't trust online backups. I just like to keep spare hard drives lying around.
2GB for free...well it's a good idea but you have to know how much price rakes up with a 1TB and higher backup volume.
I went mozy last time I had a need, but i always end up cancelling after a few weeks :P
That pic looks sick!
hmm... actaully, i'd rather buy an external hard drive than back up my files online. i'm a bit paranoid!
i've used dropbox alittle bit i dunno if its quite the same as mozy and carbonite
I prefer Adrive.com
you don't need to download anything.
My father uses Mozy. He seems to be pleased by it.
I do not know
To be honest I don't really trust online back ups, great for random stuff you don't mind people seeing, but if I had to backup documents or passwords I'll stick to memory sticks and usb drives.
they both suck
I don't have anything online worth backing up.
They both are unreliable, I don't have any personal experience with them but I've heard they suck.
don't trust the people enough to let them hold my files
Acronis for backups. just save as a partition.
also its not online.
I would say carbonite because it sounds cooler. I'm afraid that's the full extent of my input... :/
i wouldnt trust online backing
^^ agreed
same, don't trust em
well I think its slow. Tho i haven't tested it.
i prefer external hard drives
I use carbonite at my office, and it works great.
Also, just giving out my daily dose of support, have a great weekend!
Ehhh i prefer my 1tb external hardrive
HACKERS WANT YOUR PR0NS
THE TWO OPERATING SYSTEMS CAN NEVER WORK TOGETHER!
NEVER!
have tried either but theyre both probably equally good
online backup = unsecure = FBI. 'nuff said
Online backup is good for extra insurance. But you should always keep a local backup too.
Meeeh yeah, I would rather stick to the good old external drive.
You have a good thing going here :)
mac comes with back up or just get and external heard drive
Don't use either of them though I probably should back-up my Macbook soon.
it seems safe but, I feel it would leave your data vulnerable
My online backup is either email or via my website. I mostly just have multiple external/internal hard drives, should probably get a raid going.
I just bought my laptop, and I always get those popups at the bottom right when I start up my computer If I would like some sort of online backup. I just hit "remind me later" and continue on.
I don´t use backup, but thank you for the info!
havent used either. ill try em out though.
Online backup is overrated considering the fact that they may invade your privacy and steal photos/information. Not going to let that happen. Ever.
i use SAN backup solution :) kicks ass
I think my brother uses the first one, ill check and ask
Both are free right?
I love this blog!
i can't seem to find the follow button though, my user bat (top) is gone. Any help?
Interesting read

those look amazing, I don't know what to recommend tho
I don't use any online backup..
Supp
lifehackguy loves your blog..
Jolly good show old chap :D
I don't trust online backup too much, i rather store all the things i wat to backup in my 1TB external drive.
I personally don't use it, but I've heard nothing but good things from people who do.
Mike
Check out my lastest post on the lastest CPR technique.
Carbonite .
i do what the first poster says
glen beck seems to rant and rave about carbonite i would to from the money they pay him.
As sweet as cloud backups are, there's nothing like the ability to access your backup WITHOUT the internet. I've got a stack of 2.5" laptop drives that I backup to frequently, and I've gotta say, it's pretty convenient!
I only backup the essentials, so dropbox is enough for me.
I prefer to make my own backup on my serveur :D
i go for whichever one advertises the fuck out whatever radio station i listen to.
no way im backing up my stuff unless the servers are in MY house. Thats just asking to get owned in the face.
IN THE FACEEEEE
I never really needed backup, all I can really say is 2gb isn't much.
Meh, too risky.
too risky
Don't think i could trust online backup.
i wouldn't trust my files online...
I haven't tried them but i'll look into it, good post!
never heard of these, will check it out!
I didn't know that ^^
online back ups? sounds sketchy
I just use dropbox for files I want to make sure to keep.
Yeah - physical drives are more secure - unplug it, and it sits in a drawer.
Wooah, there's not a lot of new post on saturday xD
I'm not a fan of online back up, it looks and sounds good on paper but in practice is really impractical
meh online backup sounds good on paper but in practice is really impractical
I totally agree with _lycosa. Online backup has its perks and its downsides privacy invasion being the main one id rather stick to external drive(s)
I am impressed by your blog
I do all my backups myself.
I've heard of these, but i'm quite paranoid about my files being stolen like the fellow who posted before me.
i actually use dropbox for basic stuff, especially transferring info between work and home comps.
all my really important shiz is backed up on disk and my external hard-drive.
I've lost a lot of crap one too many times, if it wasn't obvious.
I do not use any backup servers. The free program I might give a try.
i wouldnt store anything thats on this computer id be scared what they would find.
interesting post!
I'll stay with my external.
Hey i was checking out your blog... you got Fanta5tic stuff.. get back at me when u get new updates ;)
Nope, I don't back up. Probably should.. -_-
I am going to check the free service out.
